Appliance Design – when to select?

Appliance Design – when to select?

Selecting appliance sizes and specifications early in the design phase streamlines the entire project process, from space planning to budgeting, infrastructure planning, user experience, and compliance with regulations. It minimizes risks, enhances efficiency, and contributes to the overall success of the project.

In my own new build home I took the time to dial in on not only the appliance sizes for my kitchen design but also the brand and model numbers. The gas line, electrical, and plumbing line locations are all needed during the first phases of construction. I’m so glad I did! The rough-in phase on site has gone so smoothly and the plumbers and electricians have appreciated having these decisions made and ready to go!

So, why is it so important to select kitchen appliances during the beginning stages of a design project?

We are answering that question in the 4 reasons below!

Space Planning: Appliance sizes determine the space required for installation. By selecting sizes early, designers can plan the layout efficiently, allocating adequate space for each appliance without the need for costly redesigns later in the process.

Integration with Architecture: Appliances often need to integrate seamlessly. Knowing their sizes and specifications upfront ensures the overall to design of a kitchen accommodates them aesthetically and functionally.

Infrastructure Planning: Appliance specifications can influence infrastructure requirements such as electrical wiring, plumbing, ventilation, and structural support. Early selection helps in planning and implementing these elements effectively, preventing issues like insufficient power supply or inadequate ventilation.

Budgeting and Cost Control: Appliance costs can vary significantly based on their size and specifications. Early selection enables accurate budgeting, preventing surprises later in the project and allowing for cost-effective procurement strategies.
