Another season, another opportunity to talk about design trends. Whether they are trends that never stop trending, or looks that will need some altering come 2024…it’s time to address the exciting looks and feels of Fall.
Wall Covering
Wallpaper is trending – from neutral and textural to bright and patterned. What great news for all design enthusiasts with styles that range from subtle to daring. Large scale, bold prints and daring colors came in hot this year. Textured wall covering is on the rise. Warm tones and natural fibers, like grass cloth, add a sense of natural comfort while adding interest and style.
Fall Feels, Texture
Texture doesn’t stop at the walls, velvet continues to cover upholstery and accents, like decorative pillows. Velvet is one of the best fabrics to add warmth and durability (Yes, velvet gets a bad wrap when it comes to the question of fabric durability. It is not just a luxurious fabric found in fancy spaces. In fact, if cared for correctly, velvet can last a lifetime in any setting!)
(A Fall decorating side note: Trend or no trend, chunky knits are always a good idea! Layered with decorative pillows and throws, it’s a chilly weather, functional look that will never date.)
Sheen adding Chic
Fabrics, tableware, decorative accents, bedding…a subtle shine is adding a chic look without straying from comfort and casual every day living. Some of our favorite looks that sheen are being showcased in West Elm’s Fall Lookbook 2023.
Fall Tones
We are being pulled in two different directions this season when it comes to color. There are deep, rich jewel tones setting the tone on one end and on the other – instead of harsh (in a good way) tones, like bright pops of orange and mustard, things are getting a little dulled-down (also in a good way!) Muted orange, rusted reds and soft greens. Neutrals are sticking around for the fall season and becoming the foundation tone for some looks. Whether you’re you like the soft side of fall or feeling the rich vibe – the tone trend will be in your favor! One constant? Earthy pink and peachy tones.
Lighting up Fall
Lighting is one of the best ways to add warmth and mood to any room. With the right light bulb, you can give your room a complete atmosphere change! See our Lighting Guide Series: Light Bulbs post. Light bulbs aside – the seasonal trend is statement lighting! Sculptural looks, interesting texture, fabrics and unexpected color.
