Designing a mountain home comes with its own kind of inspiration. The surroundings are quiet, grounding, and effortlessly beautiful – and the interiors should reflect that same feeling. When our clients reached out about transforming their Suncadia home, they envisioned a retreat that balanced modern design with comfort, durability, and a sense of peaceful luxury. A place where their family could gather, unwind, and enjoy the landscape without the space ever feeling overly precious.
Our approach centered around creating a home that felt warm and inviting, with elevated details layered throughout. The result is a modern mountain retreat that feels intentional, refined, and perfectly suited for relaxed family living.
A Warm, Natural Foundation
Before anything else, we established the home’s overall palette. Mountain environments have a way of demanding harmony, so we leaned into natural tones, organic textures, and earthy materials that worked both visually and functionally.
Soft neutrals, warm wood tones, textural fabrics, and matte finishes created a calm foundation. Every material was chosen with longevity and livability in mind – durable upholstery, natural stone, and quality craftsmanship that can easily handle the realities of family life while still feeling refined.

Creating a Modern, Comfortable Open-Plan Living Space
The main living area is the center of the home, with an open plan that connects the kitchen, dining, and great room. Our goal was to make the layout feel cohesive and practical while highlighting the architectural features and the surrounding views.
We accomplished this by:
- Incorporating low-profile, comfortable furnishings that complement the modern architecture
- Layering textiles and natural textures to add warmth without visual heaviness
- Keeping décor simple, purposeful, and scaled to the openness of the room
- Using area rugs, lighting, and layout to subtly define zones within the open plan
The space now feels balanced — modern in style but relaxed enough to invite gathering, conversation, and everyday living.

Thoughtful Standout Features
Luxury in a mountain home doesn’t need to be bold or flashy. Instead, it’s expressed through craftsmanship, materials, and a few standout elements that anchor the design.
Some of the key features in this project include:
- A natural, sculptural fireplace that creates a focal point in the great room
- Built-in cabinetry and storage to keep the home functional for family use
- Accents and accessories with organic shapes and natural finishes that complement the surroundings

These moments bring personality to the home without competing with the landscape outside the windows.
A Kitchen Designed for Gathering
The kitchen is a central part of this home, serving as a daily hub for cooking, conversation, and connection. Because it sits within the open-plan layout, it needed to feel cohesive with the surrounding spaces while still offering a few standout design moments of its own.
One of the most memorable elements is the blue subway tile, chosen for its subtle color variation and ability to bring a custom, personal touch to the space. Paired with natural wood cabinetry and modern stone countertops, the kitchen strikes a balance between warm, organic materials and clean, modern lines.

We incorporated sleek glass pendants above the island to anchor the space visually, along with streamlined bar stools that maintain the home’s relaxed, contemporary feel. The island itself is both spacious and highly functional, making it an ideal spot for everyday meals, casual conversation, and hosting family and friends.

Every finish and fixture was selected to work seamlessly with the surrounding living areas, creating a smooth visual flow across the main level while ensuring the kitchen still feels unique and thoughtfully designed.
Extending the Living Space Outdoors
In Suncadia, outdoor living is just as important as the interior. We wanted the outdoor spaces to feel like intentional extensions of the home – comfortable, welcoming, and tailored to the environment.
We incorporated:
- A covered lounge area for relaxing or gathering around the fire
- A fire pit space designed for evenings under the stars
- Durable outdoor materials that stand up to the weather
- Lighting and furnishings that recreate the comfort of the interior
The result is a true indoor-outdoor experience where the family can enjoy the scenery throughout the year.

A Home Designed for Everyday Luxury
This project was about more than updating finishes or selecting furniture. It was about creating a retreat that reflects the lifestyle of the family who calls it home.

Michelle
