An Award for our Warm Suncadia Mountain Retreat

An Award for our Warm Suncadia Mountain Retreat

I’m so honored to share that our Suncadia Mountain Retreat was recognized with the IDS Designer of the Year Award for New Construction Home. While receiving this award is incredibly special, the true joy lies in creating a home that reflects our clients’ vision. A place where they can retreat, recharge, and make memories with their family for years to come. The award feels like the icing on the cake, but the heart of the project was always about giving our clients a space they can truly live in and enjoy.

Open plan great room in Suncadia mountain vacation house by Michelle Yorke Interior Design. Features a raw stone fireplace, view of the outdoor patio, a neutral sectional with accent pillows and organic wood coffee table.

From the very beginning, we knew this vacation home in Suncadia needed to balance durability with beauty. Mountain living calls for materials that can withstand the elements and the daily rhythm of an active lifestyle. We selected fabrics, finishes, and furnishings that are both long-lasting and family-friendly, ensuring this home could be enjoyed without worry.

To keep the home grounded in its surroundings, we leaned into natural wood tones throughout. The warm, neutral palette creates a sense of calm and comfort. While modern touches in the lighting, furnishings, and fixtures bring a fresh, updated feel. The combination strikes a balance—warm and inviting, yet sophisticated and timeless.

Some of the most rewarding moments of this project actually came toward the end—during install week. This is when all the design work comes to life! Our team rolls up our sleeves to place furniture, hang artwork, and style every detail to perfection. Behind the scenes, there’s a lot of laughter, problem solving, and teamwork that happens to create that “welcome home” moment for our clients. Seeing the pieces come together, from the soft furnishings layered just right to the finishing touches that make a house feel lived in, is one of the most fun parts of the process.

Our goal was never to create a house that simply photographs well, but a home that feels good to live in. Every decision was made with our clients in mind. From the textures they touch every day to the cozy spaces where they’ll gather with family and friends. This Suncadia retreat was designed for real life, not just for looks, and I think that’s what makes it so special.
