Last months’ crush had us blushing. All things pink, on the sweet side. This month, I’m feeling slightly more bold than the average day and turning things up a notch or two with Hot Pink! There is no doubt that this shade is show stopper and brings a lot of WOW! wherever it is used, and I’m here to reveal this color can be more than that. Hot Pink has a personality like no other and can liven up a space with chic, confidence and class. It can be used as an accent to add a modern touch to a timeless piece of furniture, or it can be used in all of its glory upholstering an entire chair. It can be a lamp or a piece of art, or a simple throw pillow to layer with softer tones and textures. A little tip: Too much of the same color can be overwhelming, and in this case, it can be an eye sore. So, remember to use it in moderation. Here is how I am loving it –
Summer is active and busy, but sometimes as working Moms and Dads we want to just stay home on a week night and relax in our own backyards. But how to include and keep the kids busy, or have an impromptu get together with neighbors? Feeling all kinds of Blush for this months’ Color Crush post. There is something so versatile about this shade of pink – it can freshen up a space for Spring or warm up a room in the wintertime. Pair it with creams and fair grays for a soft and feminine look, or let it be the shade to tone down bold reds and moody blues. And yes, blush can be sparingly paired with red! My color story is showing this pretty shade in all forms – from pretty pillows to durable fabrics (kid friendly-pet friendly always on my mind) and bold chairs to sweet votives. Get ready to blush!
As a Mom of 3 – or 5 if you count the fur babies (which I do!), one of the biggest challenges I face in my home is keeping the furniture looking fresh and clean. This can prove to be quite impossible as spills and stains are almost always bound to happen. How do I keep myself from going crazy over these messes? Performance Fabrics! If you haven’t been introduced to these textiles, or maybe you have yet to decipher what makes these textiles different from the others, I’m here to help! What is a performance fabric? What are the best features of performance fabrics? What makes them durable? And what to look for when choosing? Here are your answers:
And welcome to the Color Crush Series! I’ll be sharing a curation of current home decor trends, as well as my very own current loves for the home. And who knows, maybe you’ll find that perfect shade of blue you’ve been looking for, or your mad search for that blush chair will come to an end? I’m beginning the month with Benjamin Moore’s 2019 Color of the Year – Metropolitan AF-690. This neutral shade is “calm, composed and effortlessly sophisticated” and it “exudes glamour, beauty and balance.” Love it already!
Another change of season is here! I must say, with the unexpected storm last month, I am loving these sunny days and (record breaking) warm temps. I don’t know about you, but a new season always brings inspiration to give my home a little bit of TLC. Whether it be freshening up, organizing or updating. We talk all about that in our post Refresh and Organize Equals Energized. But as well all know, this season is known for Spring Cleaning.
Interior designers are constantly drawing inspiration from all aspects of life and our surroundings – from architecture, global trends or even by a walk through our own city streets. Design inspiration is all around us and the sources are endless. One of the biggest sources being the fashion design world. Both interior design and fashion design tend to follow the same trends, prints, colors and texture from season to season. I thought it would be fun to share with you just how those worlds merge by drawing a little bit of inspiration from my very own portfolio.
