We all know about the Pantone Color of the Year, but did you know about the other color’s of the year? Benjamin Moore announced theirs earlier this year and it is right up my alley!

Calm, composed and effortlessly sophisticated, Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2019, Metropolitan AF-690, exudes glamour, beauty and balance.

“Metropolitan AF-690 emanates nuance, harmony and extravagant ease. Always adaptable, it softens to matte or shimmers with sheen. It’s neutral. It’s understated. It just is. This is color, off-duty.”

—Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore & Co.

There is nothing like a neutral that says a lot without saying much at all. I have been soaking up all the inspiration I can find, and here is what I’ve fallen in love with –

Untitled 1

Fabulous indoor-outdoor trimmings from Perennials / Chic and sophisticated lighting by Ralph Lauren for Circa / A gorgeous “rough around the edges” dinner collection from Vietri / more Perennials loving with this geometric throw pillow / A handsomely shaped arm chair from Lee Industries / Faux shagreen mirror from Made Goods

Do you have a color crush going on this month? I’d love to see it!

Time flies when you’re having fun couldn’t be more true, as this Summer is flying by. I hope you are all enjoying the school break and squeezing out the last bit of fun you can this Summer, because it’s almost time to say our goodbyes – to those college kids! My hearts go out to all of the parents as they prepare to send their kids of to their first year of college!

Preparation for college can be frantic and emotional time. There is so much to think about when it comes to necessities, but I’d like to chat about the fun side of college prep – the dorm! I believe in helping to create a space that feels like a home away from home for our special scholars. So, let’s get straight to it –

What is trending? Boho chic, bold prints, classic stripes, and muted palettes to name just a few.

For the girls – boho chic is everywhere, bright or muted tones. Ruching, pintuck and texture! Wall hangings and gold accents.

Hi All,

The office is a space so many of us spend a lot of our time in. In fact, many people spend more hours in their office than they do at home. Quite a sobering stat, if you ask me. With all of this time away from home and the great outdoors, I think it is so important that we take the time to beautify our office and create a space that promotes productivity. Another fun fact, the more inspiring our work spaces are, the more productive we are. So, let’s kick this work week off with some ideas on how you can create an office that gets you inspired to be in and motivated to tackle that endless to-do list.

First impressions. Whether you are welcoming a client or just your lovely self on an early Monday morning, you want it to be a warm and inviting welcome. A welcome “mat” always adds warmth and texture. Fresh flowers or greenery add color and life to a space. I suggest taking time to do some research and pick an air purifying plant. Yes, they do exist!

Let there be light! Lighting is crucial in any space, but particularly in the office. You need functional light to work without putting strain on your eyes, but mood lighting is always a good idea. Place a lamp in a dark spot of the room, or select the right bulb to go in that beautiful lamp you would love to replace the uninspiring task light. If you have the luxury of natural lighting, then open up those curtains and let it in!

Domino Photo Caitlyn Wilson

And the anchor of it all – the desk. Function is most important when it comes to your desk, but that doesn’t mean we have to comprise the beauty. In fact, the desk can often be the focal point of an office, so selecting something on the prettier side is suggested. There are so many beautiful options for desks, but if you’re looking for unique – consider shopping outside of the office category.

Some of you may be saying, “But, Michelle, what about those of us who don’t have their own office to accomplish all of these stylish tips?” I’ve got your back! A few of these ideas may need to be run by your boss before fully committing!

Personalize your desk with pictures in pretty frames. If your desk space allows – add a small lamp to bring in some of that mood lighting and greenery for a pop of color and breath of fresh air. When it comes to plants, stick with something on the low maintenance side, like a succulent. Change out your desk chair for something a little prettier, once again, run this by your boss. Decorative and stylish storage – down to the paper clip holder.

Hi All!

Lighting can have an affect on your mood, it can transform the atmosphere of a space and it can add varying elements to the overall design – to name just a few. The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in your home to select the right lighting. It is a space in the home that gets the most use with different tasks at different times of the day. Of course, you have cooking, but there is also eating, entertaining and displaying to think about. So, layered lighting is crucial.

Recessed can lights with dimmers for overall lighting. They should be placed in front of the upper cabinets for optimal task lighting so they don’t cast a shadow when you are standing at the counter.  Stylish pendants for kitchen islands not only give great light but can add an element of color or flair depending on the look you want.  Another layer to consider is under cabinet lighting to lighten hard to reach spaces, it is also a great feature for simple accent lighting at night with the other lights turned off.  And last is interior cabinet accent lighting for any glass doors.  This will showcase your favorite china collection or collectibles. And don’t forget the dimmers! This always give you the ability to soften the lighting depending on your needs or the event.

Here are a couple of  great examples of layered lighting from our portfolio – recessed ceiling lights, decorative yet functional pendants, display lighting, and of course, natural lighting.

Hi All,

Today I’d like to share some insight on adding eye-catching personality to a wall with mirror and glass tile. From backsplashes to accent walls, mirror and glass tile can be incorporated into so many spaces to add a unique and stylish look. Not to mention one of a kind!

One of my favorite characteristics about these two tiles is its durability. Yes! This luxe tile is not only pretty, but also durable and easy-to-clean. This is why I specifically love to incorporate these elements into bathrooms and kitchens. Beyond function, mirror and glass tile brighten up a room with reflective qualities and add the perfect amount of shine to an otherwise dull surface.

Our Eastside Estate kitchen remodel features backsplash feature with a mix of glass and antique mirror tile. For our Issaquah Kitchen, we created a sleek mosaic design with the combination of glass and marble tile. Why use it in the kitchen? It’s simple: Easy to wipe away splashes of grease and food!

In our Sammamish Lakefront Design & Build, we wanted to create a show-stopper powder room for our client’s guests to talk about. So, we selected a beautiful marble tile to create movement and a detail with the intricate mosaic details.

Hi All,

The 4th of July is right around the corner and I thought I’d give it a bright and colorful welcome. We’re going to do something a little different this week… we are going to crush on more than one color. We’re going all in on the Red, White and Blue! Nothing speaks patriotic like that trio of colors.

Outdoor entertaining is a staple when it comes to Summer, wouldn’t you agree? I mean, who doesn’t love a little bit of fun in the sun, followed by refreshments?! Whether you love the great outdoors solo on the back porch with a magazine or a yard full of family and friends, here is some inspiration on how to spice up your patio and al fresco dining table…

Redwhiteandblue

A modern take on the traditional adirondack chair. / A vase of bright flowers (bonus tip: a vase of faux flowers can be transported from the living room table to the outdoor dining table). / Polka dots make everything sweeter, especially these dessert plates. / Cocktail napkins with tassels? Yes, please! /  Can you believe this cute fish plate is not pottery? Melamine is the way to go for outdoor (kid-friendly) entertaining. / A chic pitcher filled with water and fresh lemons is a chic way to stay hydrated. / Every patio needs a garden stool! / A classic cabana stripe always adds a perfect pop. Try it with pillows. / Go bold with your serving ware! / A woven indoor-outdoor rug can lay the foundation for a vibrant outdoor entertaining space.

Happy 4th to all! May it be a filled with family, friends, fun and lots of color!

Hi All!

We are well into another month and it’s time for another Self-Care boost. What are you doing to take care of you? If you don’t have an answer or you need a little bit of inspiration, here are my Top 3 must-do’s to take care of me.

Schedule your self-care time! And the most important part…don’t cancel on yourself! It is so natural for us to go out of our way for others, while putting ourselves on the back burner. We cannot fully be there for others if we aren’t fully there for ourselves. Use this time to recharge your batteries, or prepare yourself for the day ahead. There are no rules or guidelines, this is a time to do what promotes your happiness and health. And that can be anything from daily devotions and yoga, soaking in the bath with a good book, or simply sipping a cup of coffee in a quiet space.

Self-care must-haves:

Untitled 3

My favorite devotional app, FIRST5 | There is nothing like a french press for one, Williams Sonoma | Go all out for your self with LUSH beauty products

Take care of your body and your brain, starting with what you put in your body. Eating a healthy diet is more than looking good. It gives us the physical energy we need to stay active and the mental boost we need to keep our minds alert, not to mention the positive long-term effects. If you don’t know where you start and find a change in diet quite daunting, find a good book for a boost of inspiration. There are so many out there!

Best sellers and must-have books:

Untitled 1

Genius Foods by Max Lugavere | Quantum Wellness by Kathy Freston | The Whole30 Cookbook by Melissa Hartwig

Exercise! You saw that one coming, didn’t you? Taking care of yourself physically can boost your mood and reduce stress and anxiety. It’s not always easy to make it to Orange Theory or your favorite barre class, so add a simple home workout to your end of day routine. Or, simply take the stairs and choose the parking spot farthest from the grocery store. Every step counts!

My workout must-haves:

Untitled 2

The not so gym looking gym bag from LululemonThe Apple Watch, of course | S’well water bottle in a chic ombré finish

Now, open up that daily planner and put your self-care time in ink.

Hi All!

To my fellow parents – it’s time to celebrate our growing children as they graduate another year. My how time flies! Before you send off your special graduate on a new adventure, it’s time to throw them a much deserved bash! As a proud Mom, this is one of my favorite parties to host. I find a lot of parties can be stressful to plan, but this is one I find so much joy in planning. Whether you’re going all out or keeping it intimate, here are some simple ideas and inspiration to get your creative hostess juices flowing:

A simple, yet stylish banner hung over a table is an expensive way to add a fun focal point.

For the DIY-er – a balloon chandelier with a personal touch. Attach memorable pictures to the end of balloon ribbon to create a fun backdrop behind the food table. Ask your guests to pick one to sign and add a personal message for your grad.

Hi All!

Last months’ crush had us blushing. All things pink, on the sweet side. This month, I’m feeling slightly more bold than the average day and turning things up a notch or two with Hot Pink! There is no doubt that this shade is show stopper and brings a lot of WOW! wherever it is used, and I’m here to reveal this color can be more than that. Hot Pink has a personality like no other and can liven up a space with chic, confidence and class. It can be used as an accent to add a modern touch to a timeless piece of furniture, or it can be used in all of its glory upholstering an entire chair. It can be a lamp or a piece of art, or a simple throw pillow to layer with softer tones and textures. A little tip: Too much of the same color can be overwhelming, and in this case, it can be an eye sore. So, remember to use it in moderation.  Here is how I am loving it –

Color Crush Hot Pink

Blended with multiple colors in a modern piece of art. Used in a room with a neutral palette, this would be the perfect focal point.

Luxe velvet texture on throw pillows. Like a fun stripe with tassels or a geometric print with an ikat influence. As I mentioned before, layered with softer tones, these would add a punch of color to a sofa. Or, if you are leaning more towards the bold side, layer it up with some jewel tones.

If you’re ready to commit to this vivacious color and looking for the perfect shade of Hot Pink, then Benjamin Moore’s Peony is a good start.

A natural weaved basket brings a global flair with gorgeous texture and bold color.

Talk about luxe! Designer’s Guild never fails when it comes to bright and beautiful colors. This ombre rug is more than just a pretty sight, with a particular weave and composition, it is also durable. And you know how much I love durability in the home!

For just the slightest touch, a vase with faux flowers. A simple pink peony will do!

A gorgeous agate accent in varying shades of pink. Tone on tone for the win!

What is your favorite shade of pink? I’d love to share your color crush!

Hi All!

Summer is active and busy, but sometimes as working Moms and Dads we want to just stay home on a week night and relax in our own backyards.  But how to include and keep the kids busy, or have an impromptu get together with neighbors? It doesn’t take much to create an outdoor space that ticks all the boxes of entertaining a gathering of all ages. Here are some ideas:

– A drive-in movie experience in your own backyard. With a white sheet and a few things found in your own home and garden, you can design your very own screen. Here is a great DIY tutorial I found on HGTV. If you have white exterior paint and enough space to act as a screen, you are all set!

1506607504069

For the seating, there is no need to go over-the-top. Add a throw pillow or two for some extra comfort. Over-sized pillows and poufs covered in indoor/outdoor fabric layered on a blanket will be the perfect setting to stretch out and relax. And sometimes, all you need is your favorite throw and a cushion.

1488763282387

HGTV

– For refreshments, I purchased a simple multi-use table to re-create a stylish refreshment station I was inspired by. It has been a huge hit! I’ve used the table for graduation parties, 4th of July gatherings, birthdays and just a weekend s’mores station.

Better Homes & Gardens

– You can’t beat an old fashioned lawn game to get everybody together. This is the perfect activity that is both adult and kid friendly. Corn hole, Horseshoes and Bocce are some of the favorites. LL Bean carries a few of the classics … and personalized bags or equipment is just the cherry on top!

LL Bean

– The perfect ending to a long day, or the best part of the garden party is a fire pit gathering. How do you get the kids to sit still and enjoy? S’mores! If you’re not one for twigs as makeshift roasting sticks, then you’re going to love these telescoping forks, and colored handle tips will keep the kids fighting over sticks!

How are you spending your Summer days? Do you have any ideas for a fun backyard gathering? I’d love to hear!
